The Fountains at Farah is a large shopping center built on top of a multi-level parking garage. The design required that utilities and piping be run up through the garage slab to serve the shops, but because each tenant's utility and piping needs were different and because the site was not leased until it was completed, sleeves could not be set at the time of the concrete pour. Sleeves were still needed, but doing so would be dangerous because of the chance of damaging the tensioning tendons. To resolve this, IKERD was hired to laser scan the rebar and tensioning tendons while they were exposed before concrete was poured. The resulting point cloud enabled tenants to drill through the slab with the certainty of knowing the precise locations of the steel.
